872 Audit - Unexpected Overnight Stay After Day-Case Surgery In ENT

Abstract Introduction The aim of this audit was to determine the compliance with guidelines regarding patient selection for day-case surgeries in ENT. Method Data collected retrospectively and included all patients who underwent elective ENT over a one-year period at an NHS hospital. Factors considered nature operation, timing, surgeon’s preference, as well social circumstances. Results Out 1101 intended day cases, 113 (10%) had unexpected overnight stay. major factor contributing these stays timing where 85 cases undergone surgery afternoon. Other factors drain siting, saturation monitoring, post-operative complications, Tonsillectomy-related nasal procedures formed majority procedures, 74 total. Conclusions We concluded that most stay could have been prevented. Careful theatre list planning by prioritizing morning lists may reduce numbers significantly. Co-morbidities aspects need be explored when booking theatres.
